Environmental Chemist
Overview / Responsibilities
Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure currently has an opportunity available for an Environmental Scientist in our Portland, ME office. We are looking for a candidate with 2-5 years' experience with skills in geology and / or hydrology.
Key Responsibilities
Analytical data validation, data review and report writing
Development of environmental sampling programs, interpretation of environmental chemistry data and data quality evaluation (DQE), data forensics, assistance with laboratory coordination, database support and data entry
Assistance to proposal teams for selection of analytical methodology, evaluation laboratory proposals and establishment of QA / QC parameters
Coordination with Junior and / or Senior Chemist on a daily basis
Working knowledge of development of project data quality objectives
Support project teams with field work to support environmental sampling programs
Skills / Qualifications
BA or BS in Chemistry
Familiarity with Word, Access, Excel, ADR and / or EQuIS software
2 5 years of experience with operation and use of analytical laboratory equipment (e.g., GC, GC / MS, ICP) is preferred
Familiarity with USEPA Methods including SW-846, CLP and Standard Methods is desired
Experience in hazardous waste site investigations is preferred
Knowledge of the principles and standards of scientific study, field investigation and sampling, experimentation, research and documentation
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
The ideal candidate for this position is an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a strong desire to learn
Strong interpersonal and writing skills are critical
OSHA 40 hour Hazardous Waste Site Safety Training preferred but not required
Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
Physical Demands
Ability to move and lift equipment that can weigh up to 50 lbs
