Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Infectious Diseases
A Clinical Pharmacist Specialist position, working in partnership with an Infectious Diseases Physician, focused on promoting the optimal use of antimicrobial agents while reducing the risk of unintended adverse effects such as resistance emergence and toxicity. Some core functions are as follows:
Work collaboratively as the Co-Director of
maine
Medical Center s Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
Utilize various proactive strategies such as auditing with direct intervention, formulary management/ preauthorization and clinical decision support/surveillance to ensure optimal patient outcomes from prophylactic, empiric and therapeutic uses of antimicrobial agents.
Provide
education
throughout our organization to enhance our overall clinical competency on all topics related to the use of antimicrobial agents.
Demonstrate ongoing professional development including, meeting all requirements for continuing education, keeping abreast of current professional literature and how it relates to clinical, financial and safety outcomes, and conducting antimicrobial related research.
Generate and analyze process and outcome measures for use in assessing gaps and effectiveness of antimicrobial stewardship.
Candidate qualifications are as follows:
Pharm.D. from an accredited College of Pharmacy and pharmacist licensure eligibility to practice in the State of Maine.
PGY2 and/or fellowship in Infectious Diseases preferred
Board certification with Infectious Diseases added qualifications preferred
Summary of Position Description
Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager of Clinical
services
, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist reviews drug therapy; formulates recommendations based on current literature and prevailing opinion; participates in the education of physicians, pharmacists,nurses, and allied health professionals; serves as a resource for drug information; pariticpates in drug research trials based on specialty and current relationships with principle investigators; and serves as a liasion between the specialty and department operations. Active participant on the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Work experience as a patient care pharmacist involved in patient monitoring and drug therapy review is required.
Graduate of an ACCP accredited school/college of pharmacy is required.
Eligible or currently licensed in the State of Maine.
Experience in an academic setting as an educator of pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals is required.
Experience in the monitoring and consultation on drug therapy in patients of all age groups.
Experience in the design, enrollment, monitoring, documentation, and analysis of patients in research drug protocols is preferred.
Excellent presentation skills on topics of clinical relevance.
