Lead Advanced Practice Provider-Palliative Care

Lead Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Palliative Care Portland, ME Maine Medical Center Internal in Department Only Serving as the APP team lead, this position is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment that promotes accountability, teamwork and high quality care delivery.
Acts as a role model for staff to foster our values and vision.
Our 16 member interdisciplinary team serves the community in both tertiary/ academic inpatient and ambulatory/ home settings.
The Palliative Care team focuses on highest quality specialty palliative care services to patients and their families of all ages and disease stages.
The NP/PA will provide palliative care along with the Palliative Care interdisciplinary team, which includes physicians, APP's, Social Workers and Chaplains.
The NP/PA also provide primary palliative care education within the organization as regards to pain and symptom management, communication, and support of patients/families with the primary focus on the quality of life.
Essential Functions:
Participates in the recruitment, interviews, onboarding, and training of new APPs Coordinates schedules - including time away and call coverage Completes weekly payroll, as applicable Participates in ongoing professional development and staff education Assists with implementation of new workflows, policies and procedures Serves as point of contact for patient issue resolution Participates in physician interviews/candidate selection Assists in process to ensure credentialing and licensure is up to date Participates in Lead meetings with APP Manager Performs chart audits Promotes APP employment engagement and retention, with identification of opportunities for engagement Participates in quality improvement initiatives hospital/department wide Holds meeting as necessary to address APP colleague concerns, challenges, opportunities Assist with annual performance reviews of site/location staff Required minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program - Master Degree Current nursing license or physician assistant license issues by the state of Maine.
Minimum of three years professional clinical experience Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking and other organizational matters.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff and colleagues.
