Summary Position Summary Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH) defines a Family Support Specialist as a parent of a child with mental health, substance use, autism or other developmental challenges.
The Family Support Specialist is required to have 5 or more years of lived experience as a parent, therapeutic foster parent, or a guardian of a child with or at risk of serious emotional challenges, autism or other developmental dealys.
Certification as a Parent Support Provider is required within 12 months of date of employment.
The Family Support Specialist works as part of the Behavioral Health Home Organization (BHHO) team at MBH and supports Family members with a child(ren) in the BHHO program.
The Family Support Specialist is an integral part of the BHHO (BHHO) interdisciplinary team approach to care coordination.
The BHHO is a case management program for MaineCare members with Serious Emotional Disorders (SED), and Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI), Autism and/or other developmental delays with the goal of integrating and coordinating treatment toward improved physical and behavioral health outcomes.
The Family Support Specialist does not provide clinical assessment or traditional service provider functions within the team.
The Family Support Specialist uses the training and skills of the 5 core competencies as set forth by the National Certification Commission for Family Support, to build mutually supportive relationships that allow each parent to grow and learn together.
The Family Support Specialist encourages families to move toward self-advocacy in the attainment of culturally-specific life goals for themselves and their children and helps them develop the skills to do so by working directly with each family involved in the BHHO program for children.
The Family Support Specialist meets with the family member(s) one-on-one to provide support and encouragement towards resiliency.
The Family Support Specialist may also facilitate support groups that address areas of concern for family members in the BHHO program.
The position requires travel to client's homes and meetings in the community, in addition to office based work.
The position seeks to foster relationships and skill building that improves both the family member's wellbeing and the child's wellbeing.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
License/Certifications:
Certification as Family Support Specialist:
Completion of, or ability to complete, the Parent/Family Peer Support Training offered by G.
E.
A.
R.
is required.
Certification is required within 12 months of hire date.
Ability to provide support according to the values and principles of the training is required.
Employment will be contingent on the above certification guidelines.
Experience:
Five or more years of lived experience as a parent, therapeutic foster parent, or a guardian of a child with or at risk of serious emotional disturbance, autism or other developmental challenges are required.
Duties require knowledge of accessing community resources and one to three years of related work experience Models strengths-based interactions and treats all individuals with respect.
Demonstrates ability to utilize strengths-based approach to problem solving Ability to articulate the unique nature of Family Support within traditional service programs Good communication skills and an ability to establish rapport with consumers, family members, caregivers and other resource providers.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
