Position Description PAE seeks a reliable and team-oriented, summer-only ESOL Class Instructor for the excursion-based PAE Summer Program.
Classes take place in person and will include one field trip per week at an off-site location within walking distance of the Portland Adult Education campus.
PAE Instructors are hired on a temporary hourly basis.
Duties and Responsibilities Plan lessons using provided curriculum Provide student instruction designed to build students' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English Assess and evaluate student work Work effectively with Summer Program Coordinator and other Summer Program staff Participate in weekly team meetings Maintain accurate attendance using MaineSTARS record-keeping database Provide data or documentations as needed to fulfill state or grant funding requirements Required Skills/Qualifications Authorization to work in the US at the time of application Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field Experience teaching ESOL classes Ability to guide and support students during walking trips to and from field trip destinations Excellent interpersonal skills Clear, concise oral and written communication Self-motivated with a high degree of flexibility Ability to work professionally and ethically within a multicultural setting, including ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy of persons, documents, data and communications Ability to manage time, set priorities, plan & implement projects effectively Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail Preferred Experience teaching at Portland Adult Education Experience working with multicultural, multilingual populations and ESOL students Ability to speak multiple languages PAE Alum, immigrant, and/or BIPOC community members are encouraged to apply Location and Work schedule Classes take place at 14 Locust St.
Portland, ME Class schedule will be Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 9am-11am Classes meet three times a week for 2 hours each session Total teaching hours is 10/week which includes 6 hours in class and four hours of class preparation, related administrative work, and meeting times Summer Program runs for 4 weeks; July 17th through August 11th Job Types:
